STREATHAM VALE PARK

2025 has been another successful year in the park. The football pitches were regularly booked for matches and training groups. The tennis courts were popular and well used.

A drawback is the fly-tipping that appears in the corner of the park near the football pitches. Volunteers do regularly clear it but, soon after, further rubbish is dumped.

Sadly, earlier in the year, the Streatham Youth and Community Trust (SYCT) that ran the hut for children’s activities, etc. went into administration but happily has been rescued by a new team of Trustees on the Board, who will be announced shortly, once they have been registered by the Charity Commission. However, Sue Pettigrew is the new Chair of Trustees, she is the former CEO of St. Michael’s Fellowship. Nicole Griffiths, Green Party Councillor for Lambeth, is also one of the Trustees. Once the staff structure has been worked out, the person in charge will be announced.

Come the spring, I hope to organise a public meeting to see how much interest there is in reforming a Friends Group of the park, which has sadly fallen by the wayside in numbers, particularly as I wished to step down as Chair after over 20 years as Deputy Chair to Karen, my late wife, and subsequently taking over as Chair.

If anyone would be interested in coming to such a meeting and getting involved with supporting our local park, please let me know.
